Registration Opens: 8:00am

Workshop: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Captains is a MHSAA program that brings together team captains from schools across Manitoba for a one day workshop.  The workshop talks about their responsibilities as leaders, and being role models to their teammates, to the other students at their schools, to their families, and their community.

We are bringing in Keith Nord, a very accomplished motivational speaker, who has spoken to Youth and Corporate groups across the US and Canada.  Keith is a former NFL player, and captain with the Minnesota Vikings, and has been recognized with numerous citizenship and leadership awards.  Keith has a great speaking style and is able to relate to and interact with the student leaders.

His presentation will review the responsibilities of being a leader, and will challenge the students to think about the effect of what they do, and how it will impact others, being role models to others in school, and community, as well as education about making the proper lifestyle choices.  Keith will challenge them to do the “right things” and remind them that they are leaders and that teammates and others watch their actions. Keith will ‘draw’ the team captains out of their comfort zone, and challenge them to take on those special leadership roles, and do the right thing, at the right time.

We feel that the team captains will return to their schools, and become role models and promote and display positive lifestyles, and this can in turn spread to others in the school and their community.

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank MHSAA for hosting the Captain Workshop today.  This even was one of the best motivational speakers that I have heard.  All the students we brought talked about it all the way home.  I do personally believe that for MHSAA taking this direction, that this organization is doing something to really make a change.  It’s not all about coaching a kid but rather contributing to who they are and what they will contribute to society.  Personally, I would love to see these presentations continue in the future.  Well Done.”

The one day workshop is sponsored by the IMPACT Team, and will be held at the Shrine Centre in Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.  Cost is $25.00 per student and lunch and t-shirt are included.

Registration is limited to 125 students for each.  Schools will be limited to 6 students per school, with a waiting list set up.

Fill out the enclosed application and forward to MHSAA ASAP.  Payment shall be in the form of a cheque from the school only.
