Ken "Friar" Nicolson Award Rural

The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame is a sponsor of the Ken Friar Nicolson Award. This award is named in honor of long time CJOB radio Winnipeg Jets play-by-play broadcaster Ken Nicolson, who was a tremendous supporter of high school hockey and served on the organization committee for the first two provincial high school championships. Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame presents a $1,000 scholarship to a high school hockey player who is recgnized for a combination of excellence in athletics, academics, and community service.

Riley Poole of Sanford Collegiate.  Riley is a hard working player in practice and in games who sets an example for his teammates.  He helped the team to reach the WHSHL Free Press Division Final.  He finished second in point scoring and as a defenseman who played large minutes in every situation whether it be 5 on 5, power play or penalty –kill.  He was selected by his team to attend the WHSHL leadership seminar.  He has volunteered to read to Kindergarten children at the local elementary school and was an organizer and Master of Ceremonies for the Varsity Girls AAA Basketball Provincial Championships held at the school.
