The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Raizel Guinto of the Sisler Spartans basketball team.
This 5’4”point guard is currently averaging 29 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 6 assist per game. This past week she helped lead the Spartans to a 2nd place finish at the Luther Invitational Tournament in Regina, Saskatchewan and put up 44 points against the Vincent Massey Trojans in league play. She was named tournament MVP at the Sisler Spartans Classic and a tournament all-star at the Oak Park Raiders Classic, St. Vital Invitational and the Luther Invitational tournaments. Coach Michael Tan states, “Raizel has been playing basketball for as long as I can remember, she has been on various club, and Provincial teams and she has enjoyed a very successful basketball career thus far. She is a quiet leader, but she leads by example and it speaks volumes. She is constantly in the gym, working on getting better not just for this season but also gearing up for a successful NCAA Division 1 career.”
In grade 12, she maintains an 80% academic average.
