Laney Harder

Garden Valley (AAAA)

Sports: Basketball

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Laney Harder of the Garden Valley Zodiacs basketball team in Winkler.

This 6’0” guard averaged 16 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game. She led her team to a 22-3 record, which included tournament wins at the St. Mary’s, Transcona, and Garden Valley tournaments. Coach Dan Forte states “Laney is our quiet, forceful defensive anchor. She is also a dynamic scorer and high level rebounder, a player who can score on the inside and hit threes on the outside. Her game has developed immensely this season. Laney has learned how to play a completely different brand of basketball than what she is used to, and she is having a fun time doing it. She is a great person and extremely coachable, and she has potential to be a player at the next level after high school.”

In grade 11, she maintains an 80% academic average, while also participating in volleyball and track & field.
