Hannah Kostiuk of the Springfield Sabres track team is this week’s Home Run Sports Urban High School athlete of the week. This 5’2” distance runner placed first in the junior varsity girls 3000m with a time of 12:08.14 and 2nd in the 1500m with a time of 5:30.42 at the Kildonan Pegius Athletic Conference Championships. With her finish she has qualified for the Milk Provincial Track & Field Championships taking place in Selkirk, June 7-9. Coach Laura Kostenuk states, “Hannah is very determined to do her best, she never quits. She pushes herself past her comfort zone to become stronger and better. She is very focused at practice on doing the exercise well and right. She has a fantastic attitude, always cheerful, and has an inspirational quality about her that others can draw from”. In grade 10, she maintains an average of 90%, while also competing in basketball and badminton.
