Sami-Jo Small was a tremendous athlete in high school and represented Canada at 3 Olympic Games, in two of which, Team Canada won gold. She was also a member of 5 World Championship winning teams for Canada and was MHSAA Athlete of the Year and Scholar/Athlete Award winner in 1994, while attending College Jeanne Sauve. The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame presents the Sami Jo Small Award, a $1,000 scholarship to a female high school hockey player who is recognized for a combination of excellence in athletics, academics, and community service.

River East (AAAA)
Cassandra Szczepanski of River East Collegiate. Cassandra was assistant team captain, as well as second in scoring, and was selected to the WWHSHL All Star Team. In addition to hockey, she is an Encounters with Canada Member, part of the schools anti-bulling campaign, time keeper and helps an elderly couple in her neighborhood. She is a volunteer with an elementary and Jr. high Speech Language Pathologist, participant at WE Day, and an peer mentor for international students, all while maintaining at 91% academic average.
