It was all about redemption for the St. Paul’s Crusaders on Monday.
A loss in last year’s provincial boys high school basketball final stuck with the Crusaders all season long, and 12 months later they finally scratched that itch.
A thrilling AAAA final before a loud crowd of nearly 2,000 at the University of Manitoba saw St. Paul’s hang on for a 72-69 win over the Vincent Massey Trojans.
“Four years of hard work,” point guard and tournament MVP Mark Tachie said, clutching the championship trophy at mid-court. “We were here last year and we lost, so it feels good to be on the other end. It drove us the whole season. Our whole thing was to get back and complete the business this year.”
