Daniel Vis (pronounced Viss) of St. Paul’s High School, participated in cross-country running, volleyball, track & field and soccer.  Daniel’s Crusaders enjoyed much success this year, winning the “AAAA” provincial volleyball Championships, finishing 2nd in the Provincial Cross Country and the recent Soccer Championships.  Daniel was selected an All-Star in the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference championship.  Maintaining a 95.3%  academic average, he is on the gold honour roll, and held the highest academic standing in grade 12.  Daniel is a certified lifeguard, participated in the thirty hour famine, lead the Freshmen retreat, and participated with the school’s recycling program.

Daniel states, “The value of sport at the high school level is irrefutable and they are probably needed now more than ever.  With obesity on the rise, high school sport can be one of the best tools to fight it, with not only people being active when they are young, but carrying these habits into their lives ahead……When I was playing in front of over a thousand screaming fans in the provincial high school volleyball championship I realized what our volleyball team had done for our school community.  Due to our volleyball success this year, we enjoyed huge fan support.  We must have had half the school out cheering for a sport that had never seen many fans in the past at St. Paul’s.  It was a great feeling, and one that I will never forget.
