Manitoba's Credit Unions Scholar Athlete
Andrew Roorda of Dakota Collegiate, participates in basketball, volleyball, handball, and track & field. He is a graduating volleyball all-star and winner of the Dennis Nord Award for the outstanding high school volleyball player in Manitoba. He also was a recipient of the Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Scholarship and made it to the basketball and volleyball provincials. He maintains a 97% academic Average and also participates in the school tour band and University of Winnipeg downtown jazz band. He coaches grade 7 & 8 girls volleyball.
Andrew states, “Being involved in interscholastic athletics has developed my goal setting skills, and more importantly, given me an inner sense of achievement and satisfaction. It is this sense of achievement that has instilled a greater confidence within me in all areas of life. Athletics have taught me to effectively deal with negative situations with class and dignity, molding me into the young man I am today…..High school sport is an essential aspect of the scholastic experience. It offers the students a chance to develop long-lasting friendships and involve them in a social activity.”
