Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

Sydney Sprenger of the River Rams Soccer team is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week. This 5’9” Midfielder was named the 2012 Provincial Rural Soccer Championship MVP while leading her team to the championship. She was named the Player of the game in their 2-1 semi-final victory over Hamiota, scored the shoot-out winner in the Zone 7 Championship game, and averaged 1 goal per game throughout the season and play-offs. Coach Jim Duthie states, “Sydney has been the definition of clutch for our team this year. Throughout the season, she has scored a game winner in the last five seconds, a shoot out winner, and helped our team to victory in the provincial final. Sydney is a great team player who helps her teammates play better and elevates her game when it matters the most. She always has a positive demeanor, works hard at all times and is a great role model for others in the school”. This grade 12 student maintains an average of 85%, while also competing in volleyball, cross country, curling and track & field.
