Gail Kendall (Winston)

Gail, a 1974 grad, was a standout Basketball player for the Pirates. In 1973, she led her Grant Park team to the Provincial Championship, where they won the “B” side final. An all around athlete, she played basketball, volleyball, badminton, field hockey and soccer. She was Athlete of the Year in her last year. Gail played her first 3 years of University Basketball at the University of Manitoba (1974-75,1975-76,1976-77) and her last 2 years at the University of Winnipeg (1977-78, 1978-79). Gail was a GPAC All-Star for 5 straight years while at university, a CIAU (CIS) All-Star in 1978, and an All Canadian in 1979. She was on the Canadian National Team from 1975 – 1980. Gail was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994, and was the assistant basketball coach at the University of Winnipeg ladies team from 1992-1995. She was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 as a coach of the U of W Wesmen Ladies Basketball Team.
