Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Gillian Hayek of the Pierre-Elliot Trudeau Canadiens track & field team.

This 5’2” runner won gold at the SCAC Zone championships in the 400m and 800m, while anchoring the 4 x 100m relay team to a silver. She then followed that up at the Milk Provincial Track & Field Championships with a silver medal in the 400m with a time of 1:00.73 min, and anchoring the 4 x 100m relay team to the gold in a time of 52.79 sec. Coach Stewart Hayek states, “Gillian is an athlete that leads by example; she trains hard, competes respectfully, and lives a healthy lifestyle. She enjoys playing many sports and works to make sure she is the best she can be at whatever discipline she is partaking in. Gillian is easy to coach and always challenges herself to be better.”

In grade 12, she maintains a 94% academic average, while also participating in volleyball, cross country, badminton and soccer.
