Manitoba's Credit Unions Scholar Athlete

Ciara Zarn of Killarney Collegiate –  participates in volleyball, softball, cross country and track and field.  She received several All-Star awards at different volleyball tournaments and was a member of the “AA” Girls Provincial Volleyball Championship team, a graduating Volleyball All-Star and was awarded the Players Choice Award at the Provincial Championships.  She is on the Graduation Committee, is a member of the school concert band, a Peer Helper, attended the Champions Cross Mentoring program, part of the Hovercraft Team, and a volunteer in the school cafeteria.  Ciara maintains an academic average of 98% while also helping in the community gym as a personal trainer and as a volunteer at the local Veterinary clinic.

Ciara states:  “First sport has taught me about hard work, dedication, and perseverance.  Over the past ten years, I learned that participation is not enough.  How well I do in athletics and academics is dependent on my effort.  I have learned that I can become very successful in a short amount of time if I can stay determined and work hard towards a clear goal.  If I combine practice with hard work, I give myself an even greater chance of success.
