Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Jestoni Villaneuva of the West Kildonan Wolverines track & field team.

This 5’5” jumper and sprinter recently won the Kildonan Peguis Athletic Conference Indoor Track Long Jump Championships setting a record with 6.20m jump.  He also placed third in the 60m and helped his 4 x100m relay team to a second place finish.  At the Indoor Provincial Championships he was the Champion in Long jump and won silver in the Triple Jump.  Coach Mikki Grouette states, “Jestoni is truly a student of the sport of track and field. He is extremely dedicated to his training, and is always found in the gym or fitness room working out. He is diligent and pays attention to detail by studying video of his jumps and welcomes any feedback that he gets. He is a great leader amongst his teammates as well. He is patient and kind, and is willing to help other athletes during practices. I admire how positive he is towards his competitors. He is always cheering others on and always congratulates other athletes on their performance.”

In grade 10, he maintains an 80% academic average, while also participating in football, basketball and cross country.
