Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week
Cole Penner & Luis Rivamonte
The Tire Recycle Urban Athletes of the Week are Luis Rivamonte & Cole Penner of the Garden City Fighting Gophers badminton team.
These 5’11” boys doubles badminton players were finalists at the Maples and Louis Riel tournaments, KPAC Champions, and Provincial Silver medalists, leading the Gophers to a second place finish in the provincial team aggregate. Coach Missy Penner states, “Both are committed and hard-working athletes who lead by example. They are unselfish and always willing to help their teammates. They are most positive and an absolute pleasure to coach. They have both agreed to come back next year to help coach and we are most fortunate. What a great addition to our coaching staff!”
In grade 12, Luis maintains an 85% academic average while also participating in track & field. Cole maintains a 99% academic average, while also participating in volleyball, basketball, ultimate, and track & Field.
