Payworks Coach of the Month

Doug Durksen of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate has been selected as the October SUBWAY high school urban MHSAA Coach of the Month. "Doug Durksen is Co-Coach of the Westgate Senior High Cross- Country Boys teams whose Varsity Boys team accomplished a three-peat this fall when they won the MHSAA Provincial A-AA–AAA Cross Country Championship. The Junior Varsity Boys team also captured a Provincial A-AA-AAA Championship banner and both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls teams were Silver medalists. Coach Durksen has built up the Cross-Country team over 8 years of coaching by making it “fun to run”. He has committed himself to offer a program that engages the students interest and rewards their efforts. He consistently and “convincingly” encouraged students to make practice, and the growing cohort of after-school runners attracts even more to join.
