Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

The Rural High School Athlete of the Week is Rylan Vanderwoude of the Dufferin Christian Stingers basketball team in Carman.

This 6'4" forward averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds on the season.  He led the Stingers to a 3rd Place finish at the Provincial "A" Basketball Championships, where he received the following recognition, player of the game, tournament all-star and Players Choice Award.  Coach Nathan Kok states, "His strong and intelligent down-low presence on defense, combined with his ability to post up, take a twenty-foot jump shoot, drive the net, and hit a three has made him a critical part of our team success this year. Both on and off the court he leads the charge in making sure everyone on the team plays the game right, supporting and encouraging his teammates, holding players accountable for respect and effort, and leading team prayers."

In Grade 12, he maintains an 85% academic average, while also participating in soccer and volleyball.
