Phil Hudson retired after 38 years of teaching, with the past 30 being at Dakota Collegiate. During his time as Dakota’s volleyball coach he has taken his team to 25 MHSAA Final Four appearances which includes 3 Finalists and 7 Provincial Championships. He was the physical education department head from 1988-2018 at Dakota and before that at West Kildonan Collegiate. He coached volleyball, cross country, track and field and soccer. Not only did he coach at the high school level, he was also the head coach of the Bison men’s volleyball team at the University of Manitoba in 2007, and an assistant coach with the Team Canada Women’s volleyball team in 2005. He was named as Volleyball Canada’s Developmental Coach of the Year in 1999 and was an Assistant/Guest Coach of the national championship winning University of Winnipeg Men’s volleyball team in 2006-07. He has received many prestigious awards for his coaching that include the MHSAA Grey Cup Legacy Coach of the Year, the Dr. Jack Hunt Award, Manitoba Volleyball Association Honour Society Hall of Fame, Volleyball Manitoba Hall of Fame, and a Coaching Manitoba Excellence Award.
