Missy Penner, (nee McNeil), a graduate of Miles Macdonell Collegiate was a multi-sport athlete excelling in volleyball and badminton. While at Miles Macdonell she was part of the 1976-77 KCAC freshman volleyball champions, varsity badminton champions in girl’s doubles, and a Provincial finalist in girls doubles. In 1977-78 she was part of the KCAC varsity girls volleyball, basketball, field hockey and girls doubles badminton championship teams, as well as Provincial Champion in girls doubles badminton and named Athlete of the Year in 1979. After taking some time off to work in the public sector Missy went on to the University of Manitoba where she played volleyball, earning several team MVP awards and All-Star awards in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. After graduating from university, Missy started teaching at Garden City Collegiate where she was instrumental in the development of the school’s physical education program. She has coached and/or supervised every sport at the school over her 32 years career. She also served as treasurer of the (KCAC/KPAC) Zone for over 20 years and has been a member of the MHSAA Board of Directors.
