Matthew Kochan of St. Paul’s High School in Winnipeg: Matthew was a member of the Varsity Basketball team that advanced to the Provincial “AAAA” Final Four Championship, and also was captain of the Crusaders Football Team that won the ANAVETS Bowl Championship in the Winnipeg High School Football League. Matthew maintains a 95% average and is the leader of the St. Paul’s Freshman Retreat, member of the Christian Life Community at School, President of the Maroon and White Society, and is involved with various other community and charitable events. He states, “Throughout my four years of high school sports, I have had the benefit to learn discipline, the importance of hard work and perseverance. Without developing these traits I would never have been able to make a positive contribution to any of my teams....through high school sports, a bond between team-mates forms unlike any other. High school sports requires sacrifice of the body, of time, of free time of the athletes entire life. By sticking with sports during high school it is impossible not to develop a strong sense of commitment.”
