Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

The Dairy Farmers of Manitoba High School Athlete of the Week is Abbey Shand of the Churchill Bulldogs varsity basketball team. 

After the Bulldogs' first five games this point guard is averaging 44 points per game and her team finds themselves at the top of the Varsity Tier 2 division standings in the Winnipeg 1 league. Prior to the winter break, Abbey established consecutive school scoring records of 45 and 51 points. Coach Kevin Shand states, "Abbey has excellent court vision and can score both inside and from the 3-point line. She is also a very strong defensive player and leads the team in rebounds, steals and blocked shots. We have the youngest team in the Division but as a team leader, Abbey comes in with a veteran attitude that the rest of the girls embrace."

This grade 10 student maintains a 95% academic average in the school's French Immersion Program.
