Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

The Dairy Farmers of Manitoba High School Athlete of the Week is Layne Richardson of the Sturgeon Heights Huskies hockey team.

This 6’1” forward led the Winnipeg High School Hockey League regular season goal scoring race averaging nearly a goal per game with 23 goals in 24 games.  In the Huskies last 5 games of the regular season he had 11 points which included a 4 goal game. Coach Tyler Metcalfe states, "As a grade 12 student-athlete, Layne has been a leader on and off the ice. He has led by example as the Huskies co captain on the ice all while maintaining strong academic standing in his studies.  Layne’s speed, size and heavy shot make him a threat every shift. He’s not only a great player but a great person which makes him such a valuable leader.”
