Manitoba's Credit Unions Scholar Athlete

Alyssa Kidd of Glenlawn Collegiate: Alyssa was a member and Co-Captain of the Varsity Volleyball and Basketball teams, as well as a member of the Badminton team. The Volleyball team made it to the Provincial Semi Finals and she was also selected as a Graduating All-Star and Honourable Mention in the Top Ten Players Poll. In Basketball her team captured the Provincial “AAAA” Championship. Alyssa maintains a 98% Average and has been selected to be School Valedictorian and is a member of the Honour Roll. She is also an Alto in Glenlawn’s Cultured Choir, assisted in officiating numerous tournaments, and assists as a tutor. She states, “My experience in high school athletics have taught me more lessons than any lecture can describe, diagram can depict, or equation can solve. Although in the classroom, I have learned curriculum, it has been on the playing field that I have learned of my potential as a person and found my identity…… I have learned from my teammates, opponents and coaches that determination, drive and competitiveness and courage are all characteristics of a leader. Being an athlete means that you must always possess these leadership qualities because you are a role model not only for the next generation of athletes but for all those you encounter each day.”
