Olivia Thorleifson of the Nellie McClung Stingers fastball team in Manitou, is this week’s Tri-Star Rural High School athlete of the week. This 5’9” short stop and pitcher led the Stingers to their second straight Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship and was named the championship MVP. She went 9 for 16, a .563 average at the plate, with 3 doubles, a triple and a home run on the weekend. She had 8 runs scored and 14 RBI. In the circle she had 2 wins, one of which was the championship game. In the two games she struck out 9 and only gave up 5 runs. Coach Grant Caldwell states, “Olivia has had just an outstanding high school athletic career. This was her third provincial championship banner and second MVP this year. Olivia brings a confidence to the field that rubs off on everybody around her. When the games get important Olivia brings her ‘A’ game and performs best in clutch situations”. This grade 12 student maintains a 93% average, while also participating in track & field, badminton, basketball, volleyball and golf.
