Dick was a founding member of the Manitoba Secondary Schools Athletic Association which later became the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association.  He served on the MHSAA Board of Directors as the Department of Education’s representative from 1967-1993 and was actively involved in numerous sub-committees over the years.  He worked intensively for the rights of Manitoba children to have quality, daily physical education.

He has been presented with CAPHERD’s R. Tait McKenzie award, the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medallion and was also recognized by Bemidji State University as an outstanding alumni in their Hall of Fame.  In addition, the Dick La Page Scholarship was established by his colleagues to recognize his contributions to sport in the Province of Manitoba. As a former All-American High School athlete, Dick saw the value in high school athletics and continued to support the MHSAA, even after retirement.  Now he is a spectator at his grandchildren’s high school basketball, volleyball and hockey games.
