Jerry has been involved in coaching and mentoring young people for over 35 years.  He began at Norberry Junior High in 1961, went to Dakota in 1964 where he stayed until his retirement in 1993.  As a coach at Dakota, Jerry won 4 Provincial Varsity Volleyball titles, in 1966-67, 67-68, 69-70 and 70-71.  In 1969-70 Jerry coached both the Dakota Varsity Boys and Girls Volleyball teams to Provincial Championships – a rare double.  In the 1970’s he coached the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team and co-coached the Varsity Basketball team.  The Varsity Girls’ Lancers won 3 Provincial titles.   Jerry was selected Coach of the Year in volleyball once in the 1970’s and was awarded the Mike Spack Award for long-service as a basketball coach in 1993.   Jerry has been inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as a builder, the Dakota Collegiate Wall of Fame and the St. Vital Hall of Fame.  In March, 1995, he was recognized as a “Heart of the Community” volunteer in St. Vital.
