Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Athlete of the Week

Josh Magpantay of the Garden City Fighting Gophers basketball team is this week’s Home Run Sports Urban High School athlete of the week. This 5’9” guard led his team to the Milk “AAAA” Provincial Basketball Championship where he was named the championship MVP. Throughout the season he averaged 24 points, and 5 rebounds per game, while leading his team to the Wesmen Classic, WIT, St. Vital and KPAC championships. For his efforts he was an all-star at WIT, named a KPAC all-star and was ranked the #7 player in the annual Winnipeg Sun Top 10 Players. Coach Phil Penner states, “Josh has been a steady guard for the Fighting Gophers for the past 2 years. He is composed and not afraid to take the open shot or drive the hoop. This past season, Josh elevated his game to the next level which helped the team’s success. He has a great attitude and work ethic and is a humble athlete making him a great teammate”. In grade 11, he maintains an average of 75%.
