Manitoba's Credit Unions Scholar Athlete

Cole Friesen of Westgate Mennonite Collegiate – participated in Golf, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Soccer and Track and Field.  He was captain of his Volleyball and Soccer teams, and co-captain of the Basketball team.  He was chosen as an All-Star at the Neelin Volleyball tournament and MVP of the Provincial “AAA” Volleyball Championships.  Cole was also chosen as a MHSAA “Athlete of the Week”.   He helped lead his schools Volleyball and Basketball teams to gold medals at the Provincial “AAA” Championships.  Cole is on the honour roll at his school and maintains an academic average of 97%.  He is treasurer of the Student Council and also teaches Sunday School.

Cole states:  “Beyond the competition, sports have offered a sense of belonging with my classmates, and an opportunity to make friends with fellow athletes all over the province.  In sports, as in life, values of hard work, determination and respect are vital to success.  I expect the values and skills instilled by my coaches will benefit me greatly beyond my high school athletic career.”
