Curtis Polon of Swan Valley Regional Secondary School in Swan River has been awarded the MHSAA Student Manger of the Year Award. Curtis has been basketball team manager since 1996 and in addition to the basic managerial duties, Curtis also took an athletic first aid course, referees scrimmages, manages all team funds, books hotel rooms and pays bills, and works on the organization of tournaments. "Curtis, by far is the best manager I have had the pleasure of working with in some 29 years of coaching", stated Duane Whyte, coach of the Swan Valley Tigers Basketball Team. "He is more like a General Manager", Whyte continued, "I do the coaching, he does everything else surrounding the team". In addition to his management duties with the team, Curtis is also an "A" student and is proficient in computers and statistics, etc. He is also a peer tutor at the school.
