Lana Mackic

Miles Macdonell (AAAA)

Sports: Basketball Track

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Lana Mackic of the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes basketball team.

This 6’ guard/forward has been a tournament all-star, had numerous player of the game awards, and currently leads the number four ranked Buckeyes with 21 points/game. This week in two league game victories over Garden City and Selkirk, she had 47 points and 15 rebounds. Coach Karl Schroeder states, “It is unusual for the Buckeyes to name a grade 11 student as a captain but this year not to include Lana would have been a true injustice. She epitomizes all that a coach could possibly want from an athlete. Lana already trains like a university athlete. She never misses a weight workout, finds time to get in extra shooting on her own, never misses an optional training session, and leads her team in practice by demonstrating a high level of intensity and focus. Her desire to excel extends to every aspect of her life. A coach’s dream”.

This grade 11 student maintains a 95% academic average in the International Baccalaureate program, while also participating in track & field.
