Rachel Shingleton

Westwood (AAAA)

Sports: Basketball

The Tire Recycle Urban Athlete of the Week is Rachel Shingleton of the Westwood Warriors basketball team.

This 5’9” shooting guard helped lead the varsity girls to the finals of the Piper Classic and the Harry Ainlay tournament.  She is currently averaging 3 steals 8 rebounds and 9 points a game and was a large reason for the warriors 3rd place conference victory against Oak Park.  Coach Sarah Lundgren states, “She has worked hard in the off season to focus on shot selection, confidence with her dribble, and making the right pass. She is starting to establish herself as a confident 3 point shooter. Rachel is a born leader, she doesn’t know how to quit or give up. It is an amazing quality to have as a basketball player and a person. She is a dominant player on the offensive and defensive end and is really coming into her own as a player to watch. I am very excited to see what the rest of the season brings, we are very fortunate to have Rachel be part of our basketball team this year”.

In grade 12, she maintains a 94% academic average, while also participating in track & field.
