Westpark (A)

Sports: Basketball

The Tire Recycle Rural High School Athlete of the Week is Keely Chiponski of the Westpark Royals basketball team in Portage.

This 5’2” guard led the Royals to a Silver Medal finish at the Provincial JV Basketball Championships where she was named a championship all-star.  She was the team’s leading scorer this season, averaging 15 points a game.  She also helped the team to a second place finish at the Portage, Carman and Westpark tournaments.  Coach Brian Brewer states, “Keely is a tremendous player and competitor.  At 5'2" she is almost always the smallest player on the court, but she does not let that stop her.  She is our best defender and leads our team in steals. Most importantly she is a very positive player who always encourages her teammates and is always smiling.  She is a real pleasure to coach and makes those around her better”.

This grade 10 student maintains an 80% academic average, while also participating in volleyball, and soccer.
