Athlete of the Year

Vanessa Friesen of Green Valley School in Grunthal - participated in volleyball, basketball, track and field, and Fast pitch. She was co-captain of both her volleyball and basketball team as well as being chosen by her peers at provincial volleyball for the Players Choice Award and was named as a game star as well as a All-Star.She received a gold in 100m and triple jump as well as a silver in the 200m at Zone Championships.Vanessa assist with score keeping and referring and is also a school tutor and mentor.She was the driving force in collecting a “tin for the bin” fundraiser.She was in charge of painting the grad mural on the wall of the school which will create lasting memories.She maintains an academic average of 85% and is involved in club volleyball.She was a volunteer at the Canada Summer Games in 2017 and was named “Sport Star of the Month” by the Steinbach radio Station.
