Ken Overby of Teulon Collegiate

Ken coached Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls Basketball, Varsity Boys Basketball, Cross Country, and Track & Field, from 1995 to 2010.

He began his career at Warren Collegiate where he assisted Dennis Clem with the Varsity Girls Basketball and Track & Field Teams.  Ken continued to build on the legacy that Dennis started and took both programs beyond anyone’s expectations for a rural school. He never considered himself to be the knowledgeable one and was always asking other coaches at games and tournaments if they had any tips to help make his teams better. His practices were always active and meaningful. He discussed the goals for the season with his teams once they were picked. He has a way of motivating his team to always work for what you get.

During his years at Warren Collegiate the varsity girls missed provincials once, only to come back with a vengeance the following year. Once Ken transferred to Teulon Collegiate he continued to build teams and find success.  He secured a Varsity Boys Provincial Championship in 2003, and a 3rd place finish for the varsity girls in 2008. His varsity girls team won Provincials in 2009.  He attended several Cross Country, Basketball, and Track & Field Provincials with his Teulon teams and has hosted numerous events at the Collegiate and with Zone 5, including Provincial Championships.

He was presented with the prestigious Prime Ministers Award for Teaching Excellence in 2003, was named as the MBCA AA Woman’s Coach of the year in 2007-08 and 2008-09 and was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame.
