The 2023 Grey Cup Legacy Male High School Coach of the Year was awarded to Rene Comeault of Stonewall Collegiate.

Rene has been actively involved in high school sport from the minute he stepped on the stage in Warren. When the application crossed the desk of Mr. Gladwyn Scott, he knew that hiring Rene would bring a dedicated coach, teacher, and community member to the Interlake School Division.

During Rene’s tenure in Interlake School Division, he has been a huge part of the athletics programs at Warren Elementary, Warren Collegiate, and most recently Collège Stonewall Collegiate. Throughout his 35-year career, Rene has coached multiple sports. Most of Rene’s time coaching has come in the areas of cross country, track and field, badminton, and hockey. Rene’s teams have captured numerous Provincial Championships in both Cross Country and Track and Field.

Rene has also volunteered to convene multiple MHSAA Provincial Championships events. He has also acted as a valuable member of Zone 5 athletics, where he has served as the treasurer in most recent years, and convener for multiple Zone Championships.

Rene’s work does not stop at the doors of the school.  He has served the community of Stonewall, by volunteering countless hours; coaching hockey, softball, and creating a community track and field program. Rene has also given back, in the capacity as an official.  He has referred hockey, and volleyball, and umpired baseball and softball.
