Athlete of the Year

Overall Female Athlete of the Year & AAA Girls Athlete of the Year

Mia Sawatsky of W.C. Miller Collegiate participated in cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track and field. She was a 2023 Manitoba’s Credit Unions Scholar Athlete of the Year, the school’s JV and varsity female athlete of the year and maintained an academic average of 95%. Her soccer team took home the gold at the A-AAA Provincial Soccer Championships, where she was named MVP, while her volleyball team captured the Zone IV banner. Mia finished 4th overall at the Provincial Cross Country Championships and at the Provincial Track & Field Championships Mia finished 1st in the 300m, 3rd in the 1500m, and 6th in the 400m. She is a member of the student council and ran the school’s intramural program this past year. Mia volunteers at the Regional Connections Program, is a lifeguard and swim instructor at the local pool, has volunteered as an art gallery attendant, and coaches Timbits soccer for grade two students. Mia helps with the Jackrabbits program for cross country skiing and represented Team Manitoba in cross country skiing at Canada Cups, Canada Winter Games, Nationals, and the World Junior Trials. She will be attending Lakehead University in Thunder Bay next year.
